 Robert Alexander Halliday (Bob)

Member of: Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland and the Institute of Hospitality: Federation of Small Businesses.
Bob's training as a chef in the North British Hotel (now the Balmoral Hotel) in Princess Street, Edinburgh at the tender age of 15!
At the age of 20 he took up a post as head chef with British Telecom Headquarters at Canning House Edinburgh.
Within a few years Bob was promoted to the management team, overseeing the management of various restaurants with the BT group in many locations throughout Scotland.
For many years Bob coordinated corporate functions within BT, many of which included themed events, some of which were for celebrities and members of the Royal family.
In 2000, Bob relocated and took up the post of General manager for the prestigious Clifton College in Bristol.
Having fifty three catering staff under his direction, serving 3,500 meals per day on a normal day.  The college was  also a  popular venue for corporate events and the catering for these were also under Bob's direction.
In 2003 together with wife Janet, Bob set up Xander's sandwich bar in Lothian Road Edinburgh.
The business successfully traded in this position for six years.
However, in  2008 with the tremendous growth of the outside catering and trolley service division of the company, larger premises were required and a decision was made to move to premises in Leven Street Edinburgh.

I used Xander’s for my recent “Big Birthday”.

We got given an excellent selection of possible dishes with a number of useful suggestions given, but the ultimate choice being up to us.

This was useful as we had a few vegetarians, and one other with specific dietary requirements. These were all accommodated easily.

We got a good selection on the night with ample quantity. In fact we had enough for an excellent “doggy bag” for the next day.

All food was of high quality and was commended on the night by some of the guests.

I have no hesitation in recommending the catering we got. I would certainly consider using Xander’s again
